Travel Organizer for Birdquest Ltd

Birdquest Ltd is a long-established (founded 1981) specialist tour operator with three divisions; Birdquest (birdwatching and wildlife viewing), Wild Images (wildlife, landscape and remote area cultural photography) and Divequest (scuba diving and underwater photography).

We are well known for our innovative and adventurous tour programmes that span the entire globe, including many remote areas.

Our offices are based in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in north Lancashire.

We are seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Travel Organizer. Joining a small, dedicated, friendly team, the successful candidate needs to have a good knowledge of world geography and a passion for the natural world and travel. The ideal candidate will have a real interest in one or more of the areas our company specializes in.

Prior organizational experience in the travel industry would be helpful, but it is not necessary for a candidate with the right abilities and background. We can provide suitable training.

This post requires great attention to detail and accuracy. Good computer knowledge and keyboard skills are essential, as is reasonably good numerical ability.

The post involves coping expertly with the many and varied pre-booking and post-booking client requirements of the company’s tour programmes. In addition, the post holder will also be involved in the tour logistics side of our business, communicating with, and making payments to, our agents and suppliers around the world.

In summary, the work includes answering enquiries, processing bookings, preparing and sending out quotations, booking confirmations, invoices and other pre-tour paperwork, solving problems for clients as they may arise, keeping our databases up to date, making surface and flight reservations, and contributing to our social media channels.

The ability to communicate positively and in an articulate manner with existing and prospective clients is an integral and vital part of the role.

Some of these duties will be shared with existing staff.

You will need your own car. Our offices are four miles from Clitheroe, Lancashire. There is no public transport.

Birdquest Ltd has a long tradition of paying salaries that are well above the UK travel industry averages for the roles concerned, and particularly so compared with salaries paid in northern England. We want to hire exceptional, dedicated people and we wish to reward them appropriately.

The starting salary offered will be in the range of £26,000 – £30,000 per annum, depending on our assessment of the successful candidate’s skills and, in particular, appropriate experience. Annual paid holiday will start in the range of 28-31 days (including public holidays).

There are no facilities for smokers at our premises, so smokers should not apply.

If you would like to apply for this post you should send a detailed curriculum vitae (as a Word attachment), including full details of your education, qualifications gained and career history and achievements. In addition you will need to send a covering email explaining in as much detail as possible (at least 200 words, more is fine) why you are interested in working for our company in particular and why you think you are well qualified as an applicant for this post. Be sure to give details of any appropriate interests that you may have. Applications should be sent to our managing director, Mr Mark Beaman, at
