Febrina

Febrina (Febrina)

The refurbished Febrina, usually skippered by Alan Raabe, a larger than life character and a great pioneer of New Guinea diving, is a smaller, more intimate boat (at 24 metres in length) offering a maximum of 12 passengers accommodation in 7 cabins, each with en-suite facilities and a porthole view. Each cabin is fitted with individual air conditioning controls. You can enjoy a plentiful supply of towels laundered daily (unless requested otherwise). The cabins have been custom built to include plenty of storage area and make maximum use of space available.

MV FeBrina has three decks, the lower deck houses the guest accommodation and engine room.  The main deck is where you will find the saloon and galley, dive deck, dive platform and sun deck.  The wheelhouse, laundry and crew quarters are located on the upper deck.

Two twin/double cabins and one double cabin are situated at the forward section of the lower deck. A further two twin/double cabins and two single cabins are situated at the aft section of the lower deck. Complimentary toiletries are placed at the wash basin and each cabin has a built-in hairdryer.

FeBrina's crew of 7 are locally trained as divers, and they specialise in combining excellent service and meals in combination with the ultimate diving experience.  The crew are friendly and humble, always ready to offer a smile and a helping hand. They are extraordinarily good "spotters" often pointing out elusive and rarely seen critters, much to everyone's delight. Febrina has gained an enviable reputaion for catering to serious divers and photographers who want the very best dive experience Papua New Guinea can offer.

The dive deck is well set out and diving couldn't be easier, donning your gear at the dive consoles and entering the water via the water level duckboard. One giant stride and you are immediately enveloped in yet another extraordinary diving experience! The dive deck features a water fountain, mask defogging station, weight belt area, two showers, and a supply of fresh towels. Special rinse tanks for cameras are situated on the dive deck. Dive information is displayed on a large board which shows depth and marine life information. Of special interest to underwater photographers is the spacious multi-tiered, carpeted photo-table complete with cleaning materials. A full camera and video rental service is available at daily or weekly rates. The boat has a photo pro on board who will assist you with your photography and also, if you wish, take a customized video of your diving holiday. FeBrina offers Nitrox facilities and a range of courses including PADI Advanced Open Water certification and Paul Humann Fish and Creature Identification. A full range of diving equipment is available for rental.

After diving most people head for the sundeck where they can relax (either in or out of the sun) and help themselves to iced drinks and delicious snacks. Freshly baked breads and biscuits show up in the morning and appetizers are served in the afternoon. Beverages and snacks are available at all times in the salon (along with a well-stocked bar). Meals are one of the highlights of the day. Hot breakfasts are cooked to order. Lunch is usually a buffet-style spread and dinner is waiter served. Wine is served with dinner.

FeBrina offers a series of 9-12 nights cruises out of Walindi at Kimbe Bay on the northern coast of New Britain to the Witu Islands (and sometimes Father’s Reef) or between Walindi and Rabaul in northeastern New Britain (visiting Father’s Reef and the Duke of York Islands en route). Some special itineraries, such as to the south coast of New Britain, are also offered.
