THE BAREFOOT ECO RESORT, MALDIVES

Barefoot Eco Resort from the air (Barefoot Eco Resort)

The Barefoot is located within an almost untouched forest on the local island of Hanimadhoo in the preserved deep north of the Maldives. This four star Eco Resort is well connected to Male international airport by numerous daily 45 minutes flights. The dense vegetation allows not only privacy but the opportunity to experience untouched nature and the genuine and natural Maldives along with all the amenities expected from a charming accommodation option.

A half mile private sandy beach and a turquoise lagoon frames the resort.  Barefoot Eco invites you to experience an authentic Maldivian island while enjoying a relaxing holiday and outstanding value for money.

Hanimadhoo Island

Hanimadhoo Island is located in the northern atolls of the Maldives and it features lush vegetation, long beaches and a turquoise lagoon.

Hanimadhoo is a quiet fishing village with lots of tree-shade and swings. Fishing and agriculture is what most of the 2000 habitants of the island do for work.

It is a typical island custom that everyone finishes their work by late afternoon, take their daily shower or bath near their wells, dress the children in fresh clothes and go for a stroll in the island, visiting friends and relatives, delivering small bowls of fresh homemade curry or taking some time to relax at the beachside and watching the late afternoon sun while children play around the beach.

Hanimadhoo's community services include: aschool, mosque, health center, climate observatory, local village, police station and airport.

Dite Sites

There are 20-30 sites at a boat distance of approximately 40 minutes from the resort. These can be reached by dhoni and/or speed boat.

Restaurant

The Barefoot Restaurant takes pride in sourcing the best ingredients available, seafood arrives fresh and is served to the guests full of flavor.

Two Italian Chefs specialized in Mediterranean dishes continuously wow the guests with creative and unique combinations, textures and flavors in order to provide a memorable experience, full of heart, care and soul! The Barefoot Restaurant is fully committed to supporting local suppliers.

Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main sea view restaurant.

For private and romantic dinners, seafood menus may be reserved at an extra charge.

The Bar Boat

The Barefoot is one of the few resorts in the Maldives that has been constructed on an inhabited island, therefore no alcohol is allowed to be served at the resort's restaurant.  Facing this challenge The Barefoot set up an innovative "Bar Boat" which is anchored up a short distance offshore.  Guests at the resort can take advantage of regular transfers between the boat and the resort.  It is an ideal place to enjoy sundowners before being ferried back to the resort for dinner.

Conservation Centre

The Barefoot's Conservation Center lies at the heart and soul of the resort's ethos.

Activities within The Barefoot are led under the environmental supervision of the Conservation Center.

All of them have been carefully considered and developed to reduce impact on one hand, and contribute to the monitoring of biodiversity and to the Local Community economy, on the other.

Community Science

Guests have the chance to contribute to the island's scientific reseach, i.e you may wish to join a "conservation snorkeling" tour within a reef monitoring program.   The island exercises daily marine research efforts to carry out programmes within the structure set by marine biologists involved in reef conservation.

These programs don’t simply allow you to watch dolphins and mantas, they allow you to work alongisde scientists monitoring these animals. Through these activities scientists at the resort are able to gather biologically-significant evidence showing short and long-term population dynamics and behaviors of these wonderful species.

By choosing The Barefoot you will not only enjoy a pearl of the Indian Ocean but you will concretely contribute to Conserve Maldives while learning tons of biological and ecological facts on the wildlife that inhabits this environment
