NAD LEMBEH

NAD Lembeh is situated in a quiet location with its own private jetty and dive vessels

Welcome to NAD Lembeh!

NAD (Formerly Nomad Adventure Divers) Resort is situated on 35,000m2 of land in a small private bay on Lembeh Island. Most of the land is dedicated to forest and the nature that lives there. This provides them with both a beautiful backdrop and a buffer from the surrounding villages.

NAD has been purpose built from the ground up to be a photographic friendly and comfortable family style resort, however over the last few years it has been pioneering the finding of many new species in the Lembeh Strait. We are the only operator to guarantee a 2:1 guest:guide ratio for our divers.

NAD does not often refer to itself as an eco-style resort, but we always make our decisions with the environment in mind. As standard we do not serve fish, but we will if you request it. We made the change to 4stroke engines early, and we also paid a premium for our electrical generators as they are among the most efficient in their class. We are currently 1 year into a monitoring program of our electrical consumption in preparation for switching over to solar power in the not too distant future.

NAD features 10 Poolside Rooms, 3 Seaview Bungalows and 2 newly renovated Executive / Family Bungalows. This gives the resort a maximum occupation of only 30 guests, which would then be spread out over up to 4 dive-boats. 3 dive boats are new (’12, ’13, ’14) and one is refurbished (’13). We also have additional boats available for private hire.

NAD Lembeh's Pool and Jacuzzi combo is salt chlorinated, so it will not hurt your eyes or the environment with excessive chlorine based chemicals as used in other pools.

Friendly Staff

NAD hopes that you find their staff sincere and honest. They don’t force their staff to bow to our guests, rather they encourage them to have fun with the people they host.

The Dive Team at NAD is second-to-none, with 14 guides who between them have over 100 years of diving experience in Lembeh.

Accommodation

Sea View Bungalows - NAD features four wooden Minahasa style bungalows, each located in a secluded portion of the resort, a short distance away from the clubhouse. With an impressive view over the bay, these bungalows all have double beds, and are suitable for couples who want to spend their evenings sitting on a private deck with the best view in the Straits.

Each Sea View Bungalow features new furniture from September 2014, hot water shower, air conditioning and larger bathroom. The private balcony is a great place for a drink, or to watch the dive boats heading in and out for the dives.

If you are interested in how these Bungalows are made you can even see how they are built on a day trip up to the highlands to see the Cottage Industry that prospers there. The Bungalows are made from a combination of Cempaka and Ironwood.  They also feature:

  • Secluded balcony
  • Wifi
  • Tea and Coffee making facilities

Beachfront Rooms - Simple and Comfy, but well featured. Fall out of bed and be in the restaurant within a minute. Freshly refitted in 2013 / 2014, the beachfront rooms are right on ground level.  There are no stairs or hills to climb here!  They have a simple room design featuring twin or double beds (6 double and 4 twin rooms, twins can be converted to doubles). Each room has a view over the jetty and beach, but you cannot see nor hear the port of Bitung.  All of the beachfront rooms are air-conditioned and have hot water.  They also feature:

  • No stairs
  • Wifi
  • Patio at the front with drying rack

Restaurant

A mixture of International and Asian food is served in the NAD restaurant.  All dietary requirements are catered for by their wonderful staff.

Diving

The vast majority of NAD's sites feature little to no current and the best subjects are found relatively shallow. Their dedicated staff of dive guides are always on hand to show you their cast of critters, many of which are difficult to spot due to their cryptic nature. At NAD-Lembeh they pride themselves in being able to offer you as much freedom as possible on your dives as opposed to the 45 and 60 minute time limits often found in other locations.

Guide to Diver Ratio

NAD also limits the diving groups to a maximum of 2 people to one dive guide.

Technical Diving Facilities

NAD are also tec / rebreather friendly.  They have Sorb / Oxygen Boosters onsite and 3 rebreathers in house,  2 Rental Poseidon units and a rEvo.  Helium is always in stock also.  Simon has the deepest logged dive in Lembeh at 105m. Whilst not neccessary NAD recommend a private boat and guide for rebreather divers.

NAD Photo Centre

The NAD Photo Center was established back in 2009 by Mike Veitch and Simon Buxton.  At the time Simon and Mike were both Field Editors for Scuba Diver Australasia, and submitting photographic works to various other magazines. We didn’t set this up on PADI Digital Photography course outlines! Mike went on to win one of the most prestigious awards in Photography – The Natural History Museum Wildlife Photographer of the Year.  During this time they built 2 new camera rooms which are still in use today.  After several rounds of refurbishment over the years they now have 1 large camera room, and 1 airconditioned class / media room.

These days Serge teaches the photo classes and is on hand for housing repairs such as sticking housing latches or misaligned buttons.  As the owner of the resort it is not really appropriate for Simon to charge for photo classes anymore, but he is happy to give advice to those who are interested.

Simon also performs more vigorous servicing of cameras and housings and has completed service training for Nauticam camera housings in China.

On site NAD has everything you might possibly need for your photographic needs.  From spare Orings and replacement Camera Latches to monstrously large Imax Capeable 6k cameras for video, and between us 2 x Canon 7Dmk2 and 1 x Canon 1Dx.

They also have a 4K ready Panasonic GH4 camera and housing setup ready to rent if you have a housing disaster whilst staying with them.  Need a rental strobe? NAD has Inon, Sea and Sea and if you’re really desperate; a set of Ikelites have been on the give-away shelf for quite a while now!

They also have 4K tv’s, and Eizo colour corrected monitors should you need to review any of your footage.

Their Camera Room has individual work stations and lots of nice towels to pamper your camera.  It also has a dry cabinet to help recover a partial flood and a selection of imagery on display.

Camera Room

NAD has one large camera room featuring individual workstations for each room, and overspill benches for those who like to spread. Situated in between the rebreather room and the restaurant / clubhouse your gear is never too far away.

Each workbench has a shelf for our chargers, 8 (yes, eight!) power points (Indo / European 2 pin plugs – adapter strips available and plentiful), a mini spotlight, towel hangers (for camera towels, not your speedos), a rubberised matt for your camera and a mouse-mat style camera mat for your delicates.  There is also space for the largest pelican cases underneath and a lower shelf for your additional charging needs.

NAD also has a gift shop with diopters and floaty arms (and more) should you need.
